Drug Abuse Problem in Miller County

Drug abuse continues to be a big problem in Miller County, just as it is elsewhere. And while the number of meth incidents, (seizures of active meth labs / dump sites / chemicals & precursors) is down statewide, the illicit use of methamphetamine and other drugs continues to be a serious detriment to society.

We all know that drug / substance abuse can be directly related to other crimes. Thefts are commonly committed to pay for the drugs. Home life for the drug addict is usually unstable, at best. When things aren’t going well, the children are often the recipients of the resulting rage. Child abuse and domestic violence are common occurrences among drug addicts.

According to recent study, Missouri has the third worst drug problem in the country. The study done by WalletHub says Missouri sees more drug related arrests than anyone in the country. The study also says Missouri has the 17th most people per capita in rehabilitation or struggling with drug related health issues. The Show Me State also holds the 18th ranking for drug users and addicts.

Local law enforcement agencies and drug task forces continue to work hard to reduce the overall effect of drug abuse. But, even with the “War on Drugs” having been fought for over 48 years, an estimated $51 billion now being spent annually nationwide, and drug arrests on the rise in Missouri, it is still remarkably easy for anyone to purchase marijuana, meth, heroin, etc.

If the current law enforcement methods are not having the desired rate of success in Miller County, shouldn’t we look into other methods?

State agencies work hard to stop the flow into the state; Dave will work hard to stop the flow into Miller County. Hand the reins to Dave Stark.
